Live-session safety

Participation Waiver

The risk, health, supervision, and safety expectations every participant should understand before live coaching.

Effective September 15, 2026
01

Signed acknowledgment required

Every athlete must complete the applicable participation acknowledgment before the first in-person or live online session. For an athlete under 18, a parent or legal guardian must complete and sign it.

Complete the secure electronic form at betterthrows.com/waiver. The submitted form, acknowledgments, signature, document version, confirmation number, and signing time become the participation record.

The form documents consent but is not legal advice. Better Throws should have the final waiver language reviewed by a New York attorney.

Understanding the risks

Throwing events and physical training involve inherent risks. Activities may include shot put, discus, throwing progressions, warm-ups, mobility work, sprinting, jumping, strength or power exercises, and movement around rings, cages, sectors, fields, or training facilities.

  • Potential contact with implements, equipment, surfaces, or other participants.
  • Falls, collisions, strains, sprains, overuse injuries, and other physical injury.
  • Risks related to weather, heat, cold, facility conditions, and physical exertion.
No safety procedure can eliminate every risk.
03

Health and readiness

  • The athlete and responsible adult will provide accurate information relevant to safe participation.
  • Medical clearance should be obtained when a health professional recommends it or when the athlete's condition makes clearance appropriate.
  • Athletes should stop immediately if they experience pain, dizziness, breathing difficulty, or unusual discomfort and should obtain appropriate medical guidance when necessary.
  • Medication, asthma plans, allergies, prior injuries, or restrictions that may affect safe participation should be communicated before training.
04

Safe participation

  • Follow all coach, facility, event, and equipment-safety instructions.
  • Use properly maintained implements of an appropriate weight and a controlled throwing area.
  • One athlete throws at a time; all others remain behind the designated safety line.
  • Retrieve implements only when instructed and never cross an active sector.
  • Youth athletes must perform drills under qualified adult supervision.
05

Assumption of responsibility

By choosing to participate after reviewing the applicable signed form, the athlete and, when applicable, the parent or guardian acknowledge the inherent risks and accept responsibility for following safety instructions.

Coaches, athletes, parents, and guardians are responsible for determining whether particular activities are appropriate for their individual circumstances.

Better Throws makes no guarantee of specific performance results. Progress depends on training consistency, preparation, health, experience, and individual circumstances.
06

Questions before participation

Do not sign a participation document you do not understand. Questions, accommodation requests, and relevant safety concerns should be discussed before training by emailing coachpellet@gmail.com.
